Cataract again is a problem among horses. Cataract is a heavy opacity of lens and is the most common congenital ocular defect in horses. If ignored this may lead to different degree of blindness in horses. The major reason why cataract affects horses is from some internal disease. This disease is recurrent uveitis and is known as periodic ophthalmia or moon blindness. It can also be a disorder from birth or slowly develop after birth at early stages. It might also come because of an injury. As there are different causes of cataract the treatments depends on the cause of the cataract. The treatment might range from being surgical to medically managing it. But if the horse is aged the treatment can be a little tough, as it should be done when there is no other infection in the horse’s body.

Another severe problem in horses is Colic. Colic is abdominal pain or pain in the belly of the horse. This disease is very grave and deadly. Most cases of colic are simple convulsive, affected and having constipation with the inflation of intestine with gases. It is important for you to be aware of colic in horses so that you can help your horse till the professional help reaches you.

The most common symptom of Colic is lying down with any activity and rolling. Quick action is what you can indulge in to save your horse from the deadly pain. If horse behaves violently, call the veterinarian at once. Violent behavior generally corresponds with huge pain that equates with grave case of colic. Do not give it food till the doctor comes and try to make it walk. In order to avoid the problem completely allow the horse to have regular turnouts and feed it at regular intervals.

It is also important to keep insects and flies out of the barn so that your horses are healthy and not inflected. Cleanliness and hygiene is the only way out for this. This is the first step on your part to keep your horse healthy.
